Simple and Scrumptious Apple Tart Recipe

Hello, friends!
Are you in the mood for delicious apple dessert recipes this autumn? Then you’re in luck with this super simple tart! I absolutely love simple recipes. Actually, it’s not just that I love them; I depend on them because I’m actually not psychologically capable of following complicated recipes. Simple ones are all I can handle. When I look down at a recipe with 20 different ingredients that will inevitably involve multiple trips to the store to buy esoteric ingredients I likely will never use again, my blood pressure rises and I just can’t do it. Too much stress and anxiety for this one mom!
Pin for later!
So, for those reasons and because I love fruit and apples, this easy recipe for apple tart has been a godsend for me. Another recipe from my mother Fleur’s kitchen, it could not be an easier nor more yummy dessert. And I think it’s pretty hard to mess up, unless you leave it in the oven too long, just as I recently did… and you know what, it still turned out okay! (Phew!)
Ingredients
- 1 cup unbleached flour
- 1 stick cold butter (unsalted or salted)
- 5 tablespoons ice cold water
- 8 Cortland (or other tart) apples
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar
- *1/4 cup heavy cream — optional*
- 2 tablespoons salted butter
Preparation
Cut stick of butter into pieces each a tablespoon thick and mix together with flour with hands into a crumbly mixture. Add ice water one spoonful at a time, kneading dough together with hands until smooth. NO ROLLING PIN, people! Ha! Using hands, simply smooth the pie crust dough right into the pie plate, creating a relatively even surface. Here’s a pic of mine — not perfect but it was fine! (Sorry the pic is a bit un-centered, I had pie dough on my hands so the camera was slipping from my fingers).
Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Peel and slice the 8 Cortland apples lengthwise into thick pieces. In a mixing bowl, mix together the apple with the brown sugar. Using a knife, distribute the butter into smallish pieces on top.
Bake for 15 minutes at 425. Add cream (optional). Then, lower oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Bake for another 30 minutes.
Serve hot with whipped cream or ice cream, melting onto the tart. YUM!
This is not a joke. Quite possibly one of the easiest baked goods around. Here’s my latest version — slightly overcooked because as usual I lost track of the time, but it was still very good:

I pretend like I am a master chef! No one asks me for recipes, they just ask me to cook.

Honestly, I always tell my friends how easy stuff is. Especially since I’m the only mother in my peer group thus far. They know my time is sparse so they always expect easy and delicious goodies/meals when I’m around 🙂

I usually just spill the beans- I like surprising others with the fact that something that looks very complicated is actually very simple

I definately give all the details. Sharing is caring. The easier, the better. And another reason: Other moms have secrets to share of their own version. Love It! It’s like finding a dollar in your pocket. Oh Yes, Pleae Share!

Added some fresh lime juice to the apples before baking them too give them a tangy sweet flavor. Definitely a go-to for a quick dessert at a party.

I gladly share recipes, my problem is that I usually don’t write mine down. I love cooking magazines and that is where I get most of mine, but there are a few recipes that I make (that I found in a recipe) and I didn’t write down and I guess how to make it. -I make a cheese dip with peppers, onions, aged cheese and worchester sauce , make it every Christmas but I dont’ know exactly how to make. I keep saying I will one day

Sure, why not? Let others in on the secret to making an easy but tasty dish! Besides everyone knows I’m no master chef. They wouldn’t believe me if I told them it was complicated! 🙂
